EC Circular: UPDATES ON THE PROCESSING TIME FOR RENEWALS OF MALAYSIAN TRADEMARK REGISTRATION

You may be aware that the system of the Malaysian Intellectual Property Office (MYIPO) is being upgraded. As a result, the records shown on the MYIPO’s website may not be fully updated and some applicants may experience extended processing time for certain workflows (eg, trademark renewals).

In the hope of allaying our client’s concerns, we recently met up informally with MYIPO officers and have been given the assurance that not all cases are affected. Also, the system upgrading is expected to complete by year end and affected cases will be resolved thereafter.  Meanwhile, do be mindful that delays in the issuance of certain documents (eg, renewal certificates) may continue to arise for some cases until after the completion of the system upgrade.  However, should any delay or any concern about such delay at MYIPO cause you any anxiety, please do not hesitate to let us know and we will do our best to follow up with the relevant officers as appropriate.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any queries.
