COVID-19 ASEAN Update: Malaysia – 27 January 2021

(Written by: Zuhairy Fauzy)

Dear friends and colleagues,

As our latest update on an escalating COVID-19 pandemic situation in Malaysia, the Malaysian Government has imposed a second Movement Control Order (MCO) from 13 January to 4 February 2021, in order to combat the rising number of cases in the country. This MCO may be subject to further extensions at the discretion of the government.

During this MCO, the Malaysian Intellectual Property Office (MyIPO) is operating subject to restricted opening hours, and receipts and acknowledgment copies of submissions will be issued the day after filing. There will be no personal interactions with MyIPO officers throughout the MCO period. Electronic filing remains available.

Apart from deadlines for opposition-related matters which are temporarily suspended for the duration of the MCO, deadlines for other matters remain unchanged.

Our colleagues with whom you have been communicating remain contactable by email and are fully equipped to continue looking after your matters closely. Should you have any queries regarding the above, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our Directors, Mr. Soh Kar Liang () and Mr. Kevin Wong ().

In the meantime, to you, your colleagues and your family, please do continue to take care and stay safe.
